Steve Ferrero was someone who I deeply respected and admired. Of all the people at our chess club, it was Steve who encouraged and supported me the most. His passion made me excited to play chess. While I only knew Steve from the chess club, I could always see a profound sense of generosity and kindness in him. Steve meant so much to me as a fellow chess player. Steve was a founding member of our club, its first chief tournament director, computer guru, and honored competitor. He will be sorely missed.

Deepest sympathies to Mary and Steves Family.

We knew Steve because of his love for Mary and her love for him, so it is amazing to read about the other part of his life, all the chess players he influenced.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Steve was a mentor to my then 10 year old son, Michael, back in 2002. Michael was an up and coming scholastic player at that time, and Steve graciously put him on 4th board for his team in the annual Eastern Team Tournament that year in Parsippany. He would analyze games with him, encourage him & showed a genuine enthusiasm for his abilities.
In subsequent years as Michael moved up the chess ranks, we would see Steve at the major tournaments and would always stop and reminisce...
