Not sure what to say?

Steve lived a fantastic life. We can all learn from that. He was so good at so many things. I loved playing golf with Steve. The funniest guy on the golf course -- sometimes it was hard to play a shot the way he would tease, needle and make me and others laugh. A great friend and inspiration to me and many others. My heart goes out to his family.

I just learned (while back-country skiing with Mike Dean on Mt. Shasta) that Steve had died and, to say the least, I was very bummed to hear this news. I worked with Steve early in my career with ECS and I always enjoyed when our paths crossed. I especially remember the twinkle in his eye and how everything seemed to be better, and certainly more fun, whenever Steve was around. He was a first-class "kick in the pants" kinda guy and he will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family.

What a wonderful person Steve was...what a wonderful family you have been to each other,,,what wonderful friends you all have been to so many people...and what wonderful memories you have created together. May your good memories comfort you now and always. And may you continue to experience Steve's presence within and among you.
With my love and sympathy,
Steve Stroup (Kate's big brother)

There are many good attributes about Steve. The one that tops the list is his being Mr. Helpful to all. On one occasion he did a step by step taking apart and reassembling his tarp covered canopy for me so that I could assemble the one that I had, not having the instructions. One of the greatest compliments that I ever received from students was that "you teach like Mr. Garrett." Gary and Mary Ann Summers

My condolences
he was a great teacher

Steve led a great life. His sparkle in his eye was bright like a star in the nights sky. I'll never forget the 'perma smile' on his face and big red cheeks. Totally awesome dude! I had so much fun mashing grapes for his splendid side job. His spirit shall remain within the Old Growth. ~Max Unger

Although I did not know him, I can see and read how deeply loved he was! May God bless you and keep you; and help you find peace in this difficult time. Always remember the best times you had together, the joy, the happiness he brought to you and others.. he was special and he has loved.
Just coming up to Baywood today, we could see how important he is and was to so many. Though this doesn't ease the pain, the loss; time will go on, and healing will come in time. Hold...

I am so sorry to learn of the death of my cousin Steve. My thoughts are with his family.

To the Garrett family,
I am truly sorry to hear of your great loss. Mr. Garrett was my middle school science teacher and an unforgettable friend. I will never forget his laugh, his ability to make the most mundane thing interesting, and how he always took interest in the smallest details of our lives long after we were his students. I can still remember him sitting down to drinks with my new husband and I a short time ago just so he could meet the man I choose to marry. What an amazing...
