When I moved to New Mexico from Michigan in 1975, Maureen and I became best friends her mom, Mrs. Vaughan, took me in like a mother would. We had several laughs when she introduced me to “Chile”, when I thought it was just a stew, and introduced me to many other cultural surprises like okra. She also loved music and asked me to play my guitar and sing with her and for her everytime I visited. She was my home away from home and always saw the best in everyone!
