Ted McManus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 4, 2011.
Ted M. McManus, 53, a Eunice native and Morgan City resident, died Thursday at his residence. McManus was a longtime Daily Review Reporter and Editor.

In addition to his 30-years in the daily newspaper industry - where he served as sports editor, reporter and managing editor at The Daily Review - McManus recently had expanded his career to include freelance writer and novelist in his repertoire.

McManus received numerous Louisiana Press Association awards in the best regular column, best continuing coverage of an event, best feature story, outstanding investigative reporting and best feature photo categories.

More recently, he received the Meritorious Service Award from the Atchafalaya Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute at its annual banquet in April 2010.

McManus penned "Pioneers, Heroes, Innovators," a 60-plus-year history of Petroleum Helicopters Inc., which was published this summer.

He most recently was employed as a health, safety, security and environmental administrative assistant at Crown Oilfield Services in Bayou Vista.

McManus is survived by his wife Bonnie of Morgan City; his daughter, Megan Leonard of Lafayette; and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Morgan City Cemetery.

Arrangements under the direction of Hargrave Funeral Home, Morgan City, LA.

My condolences on the loss of your husband, Bonnie, and your father, Megan. I know the grief of losing a husband and a father. Words are never enough to replace that sorrow that lies within, but relying on God and friends and family helps us get through the really rough times. My thoughts and prayers have been with you through your ordeal. May God bless and comfort you at this time in your lives.

Bonnie, Meg and Kane--May you all find peace in the great memories you have of Ted. He was such a friendly, giving person. He always had a smile on his face and was never a stranger to anyone. I enjoyed the many conversations I had with him over the years and always looked forward to his column in the Daily Review. Please lean on your family and friends as you journey through this difficult time in your lives. Prayers are with all of you.

My deepest sympathies to the entire McManus family. Ted was an outstanding newspaper man who made huge contributions to our community. He was always competent, fair, and accurate. Our entire community suffered a loss when he no longer was affiliated with the local newspaper.

Uncle Ted, Pampay,
We love you dearly and you will be missed so much. I know you are at peace now. Jena will miss her "driving lessons" and her horse trips with you the most. I am so glad that I chose you to be her godfather. Rest in Peace and I will see you and daddy when I get there, love you so much
