The Rev. Dr. William J. Eberwein Sr.

The Reverend Doctor William J. Eberwein, Sr. of Washington Township, founder / President of Children's Choice and long time Pastor of Berkley Baptist Church, Mount Royal, on September 30, 2010. He was 67. Legacy In Dr. Eberwein's words: "It's all about Jesus!" A positive, inspirational and encouraging man of great faith; his life focused on children in need, family and the church. Dr. Eberwein lived his life by Christ's example. Born and spending his early years in Cheltenham, PA, he later moved to suburban NY, where in high school at age 14 he would meet the girl who would become partner for a lifetime. Bill and Carolyn were inseparable. They worked tirelessly side by side for 49 years raising their 6 children and 17 foster children, starting an agency to care for abused and neglected children. Dr. Eberwein was ordained by the Volunteers of America in 1975 and has been the pastor of Berkley Baptist Church for 25 years. He received an undergraduate degree in History and Sociolgy from Eastern College, St. David's, PA in 1968, a Masters Degreee in Social Work from Marywood College Graduate School of Social Work, Scranton, PA in 1972 and earned a doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1996. He was named Eastern College Alumni of the Year Award in 1994. In 1982, he and his wife founded Children's Choice, an agency providing foster care and adoptions; resulting in an agency which currently cares for more than 1000 children in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Washington DC. Dr. Eberwein successfully completed his "bucket list", traveling nationally and abroad extensively. He cherished his children and grandchildren and felt an urgent call to meet the needs of children. Dr. Eberwein looked forward and set prayerful goals for his tomorrows. Family He is the beloved husband of 49 years to Carolyn A. (nee Gormley); devoted father of Wendy J. O'Donnell (Christopher), William J.Eberwein, II (Melissa), Autumn H. Heckman (William), Joy O. Elvin (Curtis), Amber F. Christy (James) and Adams W. Eberwein (Shannon); dear brother of Howard J. Eberwein, II and the late Robert J. Eberwein; loving grandfather of 19 and 1 on the way. Farewell Service Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Monday 6-9 PM in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 573 Egg Harbor Rd., Washington Township and on Tuesday 9-9:45 AM in the Calvary Hill Church, 535 Mullica Hill Rd. (Rt. 322), Glassboro; where a funeral service will follow at 10 AM. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
