YUKON
Thomas Lloyd Hedglen, 71, born in Columbus, OH, on October 10, 1948, to Rollen Cornelius and Lois May (Updike) Hedglen, died Febru-ary 8, 2020 in Yukon, OK. Later his parents moved to Goodyear, AZ just outside of Phoenix. He graduated from Aqua Fria High School. He entered the United States Marine Corp and spent a tour in Vietnam as an avionics technician. After leaving the military, he hired on with the FAA as an electronics technician working on navigation and communi-cation. He met Cathy in FAA training class in 1972. They were married in 1976. Tom adopted Cathy's two sons and they had two more. Tom returned to college and changed his major from engineering to history. He worked as a docent at the Harvey House Museum in Belen, NM and taught history at UNM Valencia Campus and OCCC in OKC. He also home schooled his two younger children. Tom received a AA in History from OCCC, a BA in American History from USAO, and a Master's in Southwest American History from UCO.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy, and their four sons, Tom, Vini, Patrick, and Ted; many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Shortly before his illness, Tom completed a book he had been working on for 27 years, "Fleet Wings of Fame". It was the story of the winner of the $25,000 Dole race to Hawaii in 1927.
Tom liked to tell stories. That is the way he saw history. He loved U.S. history. He graced all of us with his Christmas and seasonal letters. All his letters contained stories of interesting people, some from history and some from today.
Services will be Friday, February 14, 1:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel. To share a memory or condolence, visit www.mercer-adams.com
