Not sure what to say?

Frances and Family,
I am grieved to learn of your father's recent death. Although I never really knew him, I always knew of him and respected his many accomplishments as a physician and civic leader. Frances, you & I have known one another for probably 60 years or more, and I could tell when I last saw you & your father at Helen Potter's funeral how very much you loved and served your father. My prayers of comfort go to you and all your family, and my love to you all.

My condolences to the family of Dr. Shields. Your father and grandfather was not only a wonderful doctor but an outstanding person. Dr. Shields was our family dermatologist and we were also honored to call him a friend. I loved going to see him, not only for the expert medical advice, but the ensuing conversations and the smile and twinkle in his eye. Even after I moved to New York almost thirty years ago, I would fly home and always make an appt. to go and see him. I am sorry for your loss...

Dr. Shields was my dermatologist during my teenage years when my acne was really bad. Somehow he magically got me through those tough years, and I do not have a single scar on my face! I always loved going to see him because we would chat and talk about books and life. He was a wonderful man, and I will always remember him with gratitude and great affection.

Our personal condolances to Frances, Mike, Little Mike and Tim on the loss of their legendary father and grandfather. He was a wonderful person with a great leadership and guidance that he passed down to this family. So sorry for your loss. George L Parr and family.

I was sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Tom Shields. What a wonderful career in medicine and life he had. Hopefully his work and support for research into cutaneous melanoma diagnosis and treatment will help many people in the decades to come. He was truly one of a kind. I will miss his wit , advice, and golf stories.
Judson P. Smith, M.D.

Dr. Shields will be missed. He treated me like a son. He was an extra father for me and Bill's friends from Ridglea Hills. If I was scared to talk to my own father, I would first get advice from Dr. Shields. He taught us life lessons and always gave excellent advice. He always treated us like one of his sons. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Thomas L. Shields.

My siblings and I have been blessed by knowing Dr. Shields since childhood. Our father, Dr. Murray Riddell, met Dr. Shields early in his career as a physician. When my father and mother moved to Fort Worth in 1952, Dr. Shields took my father under his wings as my father struggled to set up a dermatology practice. TL mentored him with an open heart. Over the years, as...

To Frances, Tom and Bill - I am so sorry for your loss. Dr. Shields was one of a kind. I had the gretest respect for your father. I never addressed him in any manner other than Dr. Shields. After my dad died in 1963, I sought his advise on various occasions on numerous matters. I have always thought of him as my second father. I have many fond memories of your father. When I was in high school I caddied for him in a tournament at Ridglea's north course. Before law school I played golf...
