THOMAS THORNSON Obituary

THOMAS LEONARD "LEN" THORNSON, 88, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021. Born Feb. 4, 1933, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, he was a son of Thomas and Betty (Eyjolfson) Thornson. He married his high school sweetheart Margaret Brown, they celebrated their 66th anniversary May 14, 2021. Len pursued a career in professional hockey with the Montreal Canadian organization. He played in numerous Canadian cities and the United States. Finally putting down roots in Fort Wayne, he and Margaret settled down to raise a family. After 12 wonderful years with the Fort Wayne Komets, Len was forced to retire due to an eye injury in 1968. After hockey, he enjoyed several years working as a State Farm insurance agent, later becoming agency manager. Len cherished his time with his family and friends, he was an enthusiast of sports, golf courses, and horses. Len is survived by his beloved Margaret; sons, Michael (Kathy) and Brian Thornson; only daughter, Wendy Thornson - Johnson; grandchildren, Shae (Tommy) Mensch, Ian (Kelli) Thornson, Christina (Ryan) Murray, Matt and Joe Thornson, Brett (Ashley) Johnson, Taryn (Jake) Pulver, Kaylee (Scott) Buhr, and Trevor Thornson; and great-grandchildren, Thomas, Margot, Karsen, Elin, Adriana, Ryana, Liam, Colin, and Ava. A Celebration of Life service is 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Visitation also from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 6600 Covington Road, immediately following the funeral. Memorial donations may be made to the Fort Wayne Amateur Hockey Association or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®).
