Thurman Curry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 6, 2015.
Thurman Elisha Curry, 84, of Houston, Texas formerly of Elkhart, IN, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 4 at approximately 10:00am at Texas Northwest Hospital.

Thurman was born to Frank and Zura Curry on March 17, 1930 in Three Rivers, MI.

He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church and remained on the roles until his passing. He was well loved and known through the community of Elkhart. He served his country as a cook in the Army alongside his twin brother, Herman. Everyone can attest to his infamous "Thurman-burgers" as they became known and fondly remember their times spent at his restaurant on Benham Avenue, "Thurman's" and the many other establishments where he prepared burgers and other succulent delights. He was a good-natured man, patient and kind. He was always reaching out to the underdog, many times at his own expense and detriment.

He leaves behind one living sibling, a sister, Dorothy Curry of Elkhart. Two daughters, Tracy Curry of Orlando, FL and Dale Pitts of Houston, TX, four sons, Keith (Lisa) Curry of Houston, TX, Kevin Curry of Elkhart, Stephen R. (Lori) Jackson of Minneapolis, MN and CD Chandler of Memphis, TN. He is also survived by 21 grand-children, 33 great grand-children and three on the way, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends. His wife Jennie Mae Curry and their daughter, Bonnie Stewart, his parents and four brothers, Herman (his Twin brother), EJ, LC and James preceded him in death.

Thurman will be laid to peace alongside his wife Jennie in Rice Cemetery and will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Your friends at Cypresswood Estates are truly missing you, especially me. It's not the same, we loved you ,but God loved you best. I will never forget your smiling face and the things you taught me, especially Canasta. You answered the "ALL ABOARD" call on the other day and gave the angels your ticket. Enjoy your ride, but remember you can't crown my Lord till I get there.

This shocked me wen I got that phone call about unc he was my favorite uncle by far, maybe because him nd my dad was identical twins.my dad passed wen I was 1 yr old everybody told me wen unc would come visit I would cry to leave with him so he was my dad because they looked just alike. We had great talks all the time and I stayed at his house on a regular back in the day I still remember wen he said he was moving to Texas I was upset nd felt lost without him.I would stop over to watch a Cubs game with him nd just to hear him talk smack,he could talk it with the best of them I said boy not Roy,jr flip,nd punk was his favorite.Anybody who came in contact with him loved him instantly he was a people person,I'm very grateful for the things he taught me nd all our beautiful times nd talks that we had together. He was the backbone of our family nd will be truly missed by all I loved him very hard nd this is a tough one to swallow but I kno where unc is at now may he (RIH.He was one hell of a cook, friend, father, uncle, grandpa, brother whom all loved I could tald for days about him a great man gone but no more pain nd suffering he kept it 100 all da time weather you liked it or not !!!

Dad is who you were to me.
You never called me daughter in law just daughter or honey bunch.
You loved me, my children and Alayah unconditionally as if we were your own. You were the most loving, patient, giving, hardworking and unselfish man that I have ever met.
A true GEM. A man full of Integrity, Compassion and you had a HUGE giving heart. I miss you already. I will always and forever love you for being my dad. THE ABSOLUTE BEST DAD IN THE WORLD. I LOVE YOU
