CROCKER FUNERAL HOME - Suffolk Obituary

On Sunday, December 24, 2017, God dispatched his angel, and summons our beloved Tony Greene, 45, of Petersburg, Virginia to eternal rest and peace with the Master.

Tony was born on June 9, 1972, to the late William Greene, Sr. and Irene Greene Johnson. At an early age, he confessed Christ and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ivor, VA. Tony received his education in Isle of Wight County School, and was a graduate of Windsor High, Class of 1990.

At the age of 12, Tony became the musician for New Branch Baptist Church, Ivor, VA, also at Ebenezer Baptist Church, in Ivor, VA. When he moved to Petersburg, he became the Minister of Music for Bethany Baptist Church, Petersburg. Tony served as Minister of Music for varies Churches and people. They are Little Bethel of Stoney Creek, Cornerstone Ministry, Petersburg, Bethany Baptist Association, Combine Voices, The Flowers Singers, and other persons that asked him to play for them. Tony played for Tabernacle Baptist Church in Petersburg, VA and the director of the Male Chorus until his health failed.

He was also affiliated with Hampton Ministers and Musicians Guild, Hampton, VA. Tony will be remembered for his melodious voice, and playing music. He was dearly loved by everyone, by his sweet and Kind Spirit. 

Tony was preceded in death by his father, the late William H. Greene, Sr. he is survived by his mother, whom he dearly loved, Irene Greene Johnson of Zuni, VA; two brothers, William Greene, Jr. (Sherlene) of Lynchburg, VA and Carlton Greene of Norfolk, VA; sister, Lisa Hawkins (Emery) of Wakefield, VA; three nieces, Adrienne, Alicia and Shannon; nephew, Jeffrey; a devoted friend Grace Dennis of Waverly, VA; a devoted God mother, Margaret Jackson of Hopewell, VA, that was there for him during during his time of sickness. Host of uncles, aunts, great nephews and nieces, cousins, family and friends.

A Memorial Service ( A celebration of Music) will be held 7 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2017 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax Street, Petersburg, Virginia 23803. A celebration of life will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 9000 Firetower Road, Windsor, VA. He will be laid to rest in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ivor, Virginia; 10686 Ivor Road, VA 23866. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Tony Green. He was a very nice person that had compassion for others. When I lost my best friend, Mr. Tony was playing for Wilkerson Funeral Home. I didn't know it, but GOD had a plan for me to sing my best friend favorite song. Mr. Tony step in and put the music to it. I will never forget it. Thank you.

I know that you are in a better place, we grew up together singing and doing things in the church together, you will truely be missed love you til we meet again.......

Tony, you truly were a gifted singer and musician gracing us with your talents in the various churches, serving our Father here on this earth. Now your melodious singing and playing is truly being heard by our Heavenly Father in Heaven, as you sing and play the piano in his Heavenly Choir. Thank you Tony for sharing your beautiful voice and music ministry with us at Bethany Baptist and New Life Missionary Ministry. My prayers to your family, loved ones and friends at this time.

Our deepest condolences to the Greene family. Tony was the musician for the Women Fellowship Choir at Little Bethel Baptist Church. He was an awesome musician and singer. His ministry through music and songs touched the young as well as the old. He will truly be missed by all. We love you Tony Greene. May you rest in peace.
