Not sure what to say?

I was a lowly freshman at Harrison High when Vaughn was a senior. I never formally met him, but remember how humble and kind he was to kids like me who felt overwhelmed by the school. I've thought of him often over the years with great fondness. Condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Dayle and family,

Just today I learned of Vaughn's passing. You and I have spoken on the telephone once when I first learned of Vaughn's illness and we exchanged emails.
I would like to share some memories here.
I knew Vaughn from childhood in Evansville. My family and I moved into his neighborhood in the summer of 1957 when I was 5 years old. We lived on Howard St and Vaughn and his family across the alley from us on Emmett. Suddenly I lived in a neighborhood full...

Dear Dayle & sons,
I just noticed Vaughn's passing online yesterday, I had thought of him, as I was passing through Evansville, and I wondered what he was doing. I grew up 150 miles from Evansville. I played against him in PONY baseball in 1964. I ran track against him in high school in 1967. And I watched him play in some memorable basketball games on television in the early '70's
I only spoke to him once, but that is why I have remembered him all these years. Our baseball team of...

Thinking of you all, Dayle. Many fond memories of Vaughn on here and with us. God Bless.

Dear Dayle and family, Something woke me up in the middle of the night and it involved memories of Vaughn. My brother and I grew up with Vaughn and Colleen in Evansville. There are some great memories of childhood and teenage years. My father was a dentist and was very proud when Vaughn later choose that profession. My brother told me that Vaughn was ill but life got in the way and I never followed up on how he was doing. When I checked the internet this morning for any information, I learned...

He played basketball with my dad. Ken Selke. I'm Jed Selke. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Dayle - I am so shocked and extremely saddened for your loss of your dear Vaughn. I just heard a few days ago. I'm still in ATL. Oh how my heart aches for you and your boys! I'm so sorry. Please contact me when you can.

Dear Dayle and the whole Wedeking family...
I knew Vaughn in High School, too. Such a wonderful, kind, focused and talented man. While life was shorter for him...it sounds like he found the best of life and contributed to it in his own admirable way. I wish you all dearest thoughts. I'm sure he inspired you and you did the same for him.
He has touched so many lives and I'm truly thankful I was one of them.

Dear Dayle, Drew, Graham, & Others in Vaughn's Family--Having known Dayle since high school, I can say that it's no surprise that such a highly accomplished (yet gentle & down-to-earth) man was destined to be her soul-mate & life partner. Though I only met Vaughn on a couple of occasions, his graciousness, solidity, & wit left a vivid & indelible impression on me. The true feeling & warm memories embodied in the entries above are a tribute to an indisputably fine human being. Rest in...
