Vernon T. Davis NEW HOPE
Vernon Thomas Davis, 90, widower of Helen (Crickenberger) Davis, of Battlefield Road, New Hope, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville.
He was born August 5, 1917, in Augusta County, a son of the late Thomas Alvin and Hester (Hulvey) Davis.
Mr. Davis was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II from June 1941 until January 1946. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by DuPont as a shift supervisor for 39 years.
He was a member of the Middle River Church of the Brethren and attended New Hope United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the New Hope Ruritan Club, having served the community for 69 years.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Davis; and two sisters, Louise Davis and Christine Leighton.
Family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger K. and Nancy Davis of Staunton, and Ronald V. and Nam Mo Davis of Yorktown; a brother and sister-in-law, Carmen S. and Peggy Davis of Staunton; three grandchildren, Lauren M. Davis, Leon V. Davis, and Warren T. Davis; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the New Hope United Methodist Church by the Reverend Douglas Gunsalus. Burial will follow at Middle River Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Kelly Chapman, Charles Sensabaugh, Mervin Smallwood, Marc Mehler, Paul Wampler, and John Morse.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Western, Paul Long, and members of the New Hope Ruritan Club.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, at Henry Funeral Home and other times at the home of Roger and Nancy Davis, 168 West Hill Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
