Violet Rosana Carroll

Violet Rosana Carroll, 92, of Vermilion, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 at Mill Manor Nursing Home, Vermilion after a lengthy illness. Violet was born September 7, 1921 in Hale, MI. She graduated from Tawas City High School in 1939. She attended County Normal and Illinois State University and taught elementary school for 2 years. During the war she moved to Flint, Michigan and worked first for General Motors and then Marvel Carburetor. When Marvel Carburetor (Borg Warner) moved to Decatur, IL, she continued to work for them. She completed four years of college attending nights and weekends while working and retired after 35 years at age 65. Viloet was an active member of Riverside Baptist Church in Decatur, Illinois. For many years she devoted much of her time and energy to working with the AWANA youth group at that church. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed the National Parks in the U.S. In 2004 she moved to Vermilion to be near her sister, Beatrice. She is survived by her sister, Beatrice Hoelzle and brother-in-law, Hal Hoelzle; niece, Suzanne Sedge of Columbia, MD and two great nieces, Michele Sedge of Hobe Sound, FL and Nicole (Mick) Nader of Garden City, MI; great great nephew, Rowan Nader; and a host of family and friends. She was a very good person who will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ida (nee Buck) Carroll. Graveside services will be Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013 at 1:00 pm in Esmond Cemetery, Hale, Michigan. Pastor Leon Buck will officiate.
