Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home - Monticello Obituary

Virginia Mae Kennett Richardson was born March 10, 1937 and departed this life May 22, 2021 reaching the age of 84 years old.

She is survived by a daughter, Robin Richardson Cady, grandson Travis Lee Cady (Stephanie Connolly), granddaughter Olivia Nicole Cady (Dylan Graves) and great-grandsons, Ollie Graves and Ozzy Graves.  Also surviving is her brother Calvin Kennett (Bonnie) and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Virginia married Walter Lee Richardson on August 11, 1956 in Ringold, Georgia and they remained married until his death on February 22, 2021.  She was also preceded in death by her son Alan Dwayne Richardson, by parents Rollen and Earlene (Alcorn) Kennett, and by her sister Mildred Hart.

Virginia was a graduate of Wayne County High School in 1955 and began working shortly thereafter.  Over the years, she was employed by several agencies/companies including Kentucky Farm Bureau.  She would consider her main business accomplishment as becoming a co-owner of Wayne Lumber Co., Inc. in 1982 with Walter Lee where she worked for many years prior to retirement.  Virginia and Walter Lee also owned interest in W&W Hardwoods and Wayne Dry Kilns.  In the late 1990s, Virginia and Walter Lee were in a partnership with Cumberland Woodlands and subsequently sold their interest to Wayne Lumber Co., Inc.

Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello where she remained active as long as her health and the health of her husband would allow.  Virginia enjoyed gardening, antiques, shopping, managing her dream home and spending holidays with the Kennett family. She will be missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to thank Mary Wray for her many years of continued care, friendship and loyalty.  They would also like to thank Becky Riddle for her care the past 3 months, as well as the staff of Hospice of Lake Cumberland for their care of both parents over the past 2 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, the First Baptist Church of Monticello, or to a charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 between 12 pm – 1 pm at First Baptist Church of Monticello.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 1 pm at First Baptist Church of Monticello. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.

Not sure what to say?

Mrs. Richardson was a wonderful neighbor that I will greatly miss. Prayers for peace and understanding as you begin life’s journey without her. Love & Hugs ❤❤❤

She loved her roses and often shared them with my mom. Aunt Virginia was The Rose!

Always enjoyed her pretty flowers. She had a special way of bringing beauty & cheer to others. She will be missed.
