Vivian Abraham Obituary

Vivian Rose Abraham, 83, died September 20, 2017, with her family by her side in Sacramento, California. Vivian was born on February 28, 1934 in Tucson, Arizona to Isidore and Victoria Romero. Her father was a railroad engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad and her mother was a homemaker. They moved to Sacramento in 1958 and made Sacramento their permanent home. Trained as a bookkeeper, Vivian spent the last 40 years volunteering with and then working for the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society. Combining her talent for numbers and love of music, she worked tirelessly for the Jazz Society's annual Memorial Day Jazz Jubilee/Sacramento Music Festival. Whether organizing the volunteers, hiring the musicians, proofreading the program, or managing the accounts, Vivian worked every facet of the festival and loved all of it. Her last position with the Jazz Society was as the Executive Director from 20112014. Her interests included family, music, cats, clowns, a good joke, and staying current on the news of the day. Vivian is survived by her dear sister, Sylvia Warden, of San Francisco, CA; her son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Marian Abraham, of Boston, MA; her grandchildren, Lauren and Cory Abraham, of Boston, MA; her daughter, Vicki Vargas, of Sacramento, CA; her niece and nephew-in-law, Candy and Steve Braillard, of Bellingham, WA; her niece, Karen Hernandez of San Francisco, CA; and her beloved cousin Mary Venutti, of Tucson, AZ. She was admired and loved by her family and will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held on October 6, 2017 at 1pm at East Lawn Cemetery, 4300 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA.

Such sad news learning that you had passed away recently. I so enjoyed working with you in the office of STJS, and listening to your fascinating stories surrounding the Festival from all the years you volunteered and worked for the organization. You were a great lady, and I've truly missed you. Now you're on to bigger and better things! I feel very fortunate to have known and spent some time with you while you were here! I will never forget you!
