I was fortunate to know Father Dennis, not through church, but socially. I will always remember him as intelligent and warm, with a benevolent face that really bespoke of the inner man. I will miss him.

We moved to Petersburg, Virginia in 1944 as my father, The Reverend Robert L. Gordon assumed duties as Rector of St. Stephens Episcopal Church. Soon after our arrival Walter Dennis became a friend of our family. He was in the class of our older brother, Robert Gordon at Peabody High School and then at Virginia State College (now University).
