Walter Bartow Helms

HELMS, Walter Bartow – of Clio, age 76, died Sunday, February 19, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 5073 Daly Blvd., Pastor Gary Beck officiating. Burial will be at Flint Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Tuesday from 11AM-9PM. He will lie instate at the church on Wednesday from 10AM until time of services at 11 AM. Contributions may be made to the cancer survivor reunions, C/O Dr. Iddings. Walt was born in Flint on December 12, 1935 to the late William and Frieda (Fritzler) Helms. He was a resident of Clio the past 27 years. He married Elizabeth Olson on January 18, 1992. Mr. Helms was a truck driver for AC then ACC retiring with 42.5 years seniority. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, UAW Local #659 and the Frankenmuth Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, camping and more fishing. Surviving are: wife, Elizabeth; children, Sharlene Blake of Burton, Denise (George) McDonald of Mt. Morris, Charles Helms of Mt. Morris, David Olson of Otisville, Michael (Melissa) Olson of Hastings, Steven (Mary) Olson of Clio; 19 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister, Marleen Davis of Clio; brothers, James (Barbara) Helms of Clio, Jerry Lee Helms of NC; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Tom and Shelly Ayotte, Clyde and Kathy Howd and Ralph Henry.
