Not sure what to say?

I am so happy that I got to work for Governor Hickel and Ermalee. Both were wonderful people who I greatly admired. I enjoyed my time with them immensely till I had to move to Tacoma, Wa to help my mother. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I once met Walter Hickel in the early 1970s when he spoke at Illinois State University. I was a student at the time and interested in his speech for two reasons: his stance on environmental issues and his last name. My maiden name is Hickel. He was able to spend a few moments with me after the speech and asked if I was related to Mary Elizabeth Hickel in Columbus, Ohio. She was my paternal grandmother. My condolences to the Hickel family - we have lost a fine man and a great statesman.

1978 Governor's Picnic on the Park Strip Anchorage

Heartfelt sympathy to Ermalee and family. Wally will always be the true Alaska's Alaskan. It was my great honor to serve at his pleasure on the State Council of the Arts, and with his blessing, and Ermalee's, to assist it selecting representative Native arts for the Mansion in Juneau. Wally Hickel was and remains a treasure and one of the most loved men ever to step foot on Alaska soil! A true patriot, he stood tall for his belief in America and ALL Americans! We will all miss his candor,...

Sorry to hear of the passing of a great man who helped shape Alaska's history. Our sympathy to the entire Hickel family.
Dr. & Mrs. Donald L. Hammond (formerly Juneau residents)

Governor Hickel has shown the world true leadership. Alaska and its people have been the recipients of his stewardship and strength. We have been blessed by his words, deeds and actions.
My prayers are with the Hickel family and friends.

I have been a longtime admirer of Wally Hickel since my first days in Alaska in 1957. A man of vision, boundless energy and courage. I am proud to have had an opportunity to mingle with the Governor at the Travelers Inn and Worker for Wally Campaigns. I will especially miss meeting Ermalee and Wally on their trips to Hatcher Pass.

Love you Wally,

My condolences to Ermalee and the Hickel Family

"The Alaska Solution, Governor Hickel's gift to the world, is a remedy for less developed nations worldwide. His gifts were many, but nothing exceeded his willingness to stand up for the youth of America. That made him special. Governor, enjoy your new existence.."
