Funeral for William Price Wright Jr., 76, of Decatur will be today, May 31, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rob Jackson officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Wright, who died Friday, May 27, 2011, at his residence, was born January 9, 1935, in Decatur to William Price Wright and Vera Grace Wright. He owned and operated Wright's Garage and Hydraulic Service in Decatur for 47 years until his retirement in 2005. He loved to take walks on the river bank and dive for mussel shells, but most of all enjoyed being around his four precious grandchildren. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Decatur for all of his 76 years. He served in the Navy for four years on submarines. His parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joyce Boutwell Wright; two sons, William Gilbert "Gil" Wright (Cindy) and William "Will" Price Wright III (Ever); three brothers, Thomas Franklin Wright, Robert Daniel Wright and David Wayne Wright; two sisters, Bettye Virgina Wright and Lela Carolyn Ray (Wayne); and four grandchildren, Natalie Grace Wright, Anna-Kate Wright, Claire Marie Wright, William Price Wright IV.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of The Gamaliel Sunday school class of Central Baptist Church, Decatur.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William Price Wright Jr. Memorial Fund at Regions Bank, Decatur, in honor of his grandchildren.
