Willie M. Barton On June 11, 2010 Almighty God, in his infinite wisdom, closed the eyes of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, Willie Mae Cochran Barton, affectionately known as "Mom Mae" by family and friends. Willie Mae was born August 24, 1910 in Gainesville, Georgia. She was one of six children born to the late Aaron and Julia Cochran. Willie Mae was raised and educated in the Franklin, North Carolina public school system. Willie Mae married Wallace, Sr. on February 14, 1935. This loving union lasted sixty-three years. From this union, five children were born: Wallace, Jr. Jean, Samuel, Ann and John. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, Sr. and sons, Wallace, Jr. and Samuel. Willie Mae entered into a relationship with God at an early age. A dedicated and devoted servant of God, she worked tirelessly for many years as a deaconess at St. Paul Baptist Church. At the time of her death, she was the eldest member of the church. Additionally, she was a member of the Eastern Star, Daughters of Jerusalem. Willie Mae leaves to cherish her precious memories: daughters, Jean Barton and Ann Peterson, both of Asheville, NC; son, John of Voorhees, NJ; son-in-law, Ross; daughter-in-law, Gwen; sisters-in-law, Palmer Robinson, Eleanor Craig, and Clara Cochran; eleven grandchildren, Keith, Karen, Kathy, Thomas, Louzatie, Samone, Terence, Cedric, Nicole, Justin and McArthur; 26 great grandchildren; 21 great great grandchidren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Baptist Church. Rev. Charles Lee will officiate, burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence.
