Charles Steck Obituary

Charles Donald Steck, age 90 of Oswego, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2018. He was born March 20, 1928 in a Ford Model T, on the Springbrook Farm in Naperville, Illinois. A story he cherished and loved to share. He was the first-born son of Doyle and Esther (Hollingsworth) Steck. He grew up on a farm in Naperville, where he went to school and became a key player for the Redskins at Naperville High School, which earned him a scholarship to attend and play football at University of California in Ventura for the Pirates. While in Ventura he joined the Ventura Fire Department as a Firefighter. He later served four years in the Army National Guard. Charles later met his loving wife, Patricia (Plum) Steck and married on September 23, 1950, at the Community Baptist Church in Warrenville, Illinois. They settled in Warrenville for over 20 years before moving to Oswego, Illinois, where they lived over 40 years. Charles retired as a bricklayer. He loved spending time traveling with his family, including trips to Arizona, Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii and several family reunions in Florida, where his grandson and family reside. One of his favorite trips was the white-water rafting down the Colorado River with his daughter and son-in-law. Charles loved adventures and instilled this passion of adventure in his family. When not traveling, Charles' hobbies included genealogy, hiking, gardening, science, painting, and many other projects he loved to do in the home for family and friends. Charles is survived by his loving wife Patricia; daughter, Deborah (Kenneth) Johnson; grandchildren, Kevin (Amanda) Johnson, Carrie (Nicholas) Ewald; great grandchildren, Gunnar, Alexander, Genevieve, Jillian; siblings, Robert (Shirley) Steck, and Marilyn Grewe. He will be greatly missed by all. Preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Esther; siblings, Carolyn Jean (Donald) Sigmund, Rosemary (George) Kouzes and Robert Grewe. A celebration of Charles's rich life will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Drive, Sugar Grove, IL 60554 with a visitation one hour prior to services. A graveside service will follow at 2 PM at Naperville Cemetery, Naperville, IL. Have so many childhood memories of Chuck. I remember helping his daughter cook him dinner. I remember camping with him, Debbie and Pat Steck. He always seemed such a gentle soul. He had the broadest shoulders of any man I had ever seen! He always seemed so delighted when anyone did something for him. Debbie, Pat, sorry for your loss.
