Arthur S. Timmins, Family Man and Educator - Important to the Success of Community School of Naples Arthur Sherman Timmins, 86, of Naples, Florida passed away after a long illness on December 14th, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Friday, December 28th, 2018 at Naples Christian Church, located at 8000 Goodlette-Frank Rd, Naples, FL 34109. Burial will follow at Palm Royale Cemetery. Arthur S. Timmins was born in Springfield, Delaware County, PA to Arthur Francis and Alice Timmins on July 9th, 1932. He graduated from City of Baltimore High School, and graduated with a major of Mathematics from Yale University, then earned a Masters degree from the University of Michigan achieving the highest entrance exam scores in the school's history up to that point. Other post-graduate studies included the school administration curriculum at the University of Wisconsin. He met Jessica Stockmar of New Canaan, CT in Ocean City, NJ while on a blind date, and they married on February 19, 1955, eventually raising a family with three children. Prior to raising the family, Mr. Timmins joined the U.S. Army where he worked as a mathematician on the Titan missile program in Huntsville, AL, and received an honorable discharge in 1961.

Arthur Timmins professional career included mathematics and school administration positions, most recently with the Community School of Naples from 1983 to 2010 as Mathematics Department Chair, Math Teacher and Math Counts Coach. Community School Administrators mentioned to the Timmins family that local parents noticed articles in the Naples Daily News describing Mr. Timmins' Math Counts' students consistently winning district, regional and even four state competitions against much larger schools. This success prompted parents to start sending their children to the Community School, which grew from less than 50

students operating in a church basement, to over 800

students out of 21 buildings on a 77 acre campus. Mr.

Timmins was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the State of Florida for his Math Counts contributions.

Mr. Timmins began his professional career as a Math teacher for St. Andrews School, a private school in Middletown, DE. Next, he was Assistant Head Master for Hampton Roads Academy, a private school in Newport News, VA, where he also taught Math and coached multiple sports. Then he was Math Curriculum Coordinator and math Teacher for Council Rock School District, In Newtown, PA, which included over 20 schools.

At Council Rock, he designed and implemented a curriculum which helped standard math scores of Council Rocks' students to go from the 30th percentile to exceeding the 90th percentile nationwide in only a few years. Then he briefly retired prior to joining the faculty of the Community School of Naples.

Arthur is survived by his sister Joan Lovekin of Albuquerque, NM, his daughter Dawn Timmins Snavely of Chalfont, PA, his son Terry Timmins of Naples, and his three grandchildren, Chris Snavely and Danielle Snavely of Chalfont, and Brian Timmins of Naples.
