James Arthur Carthaus "Jim" of Naples, FL and South Londonderry, VT passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 24th, 2018 at age 77. Jim was born on August 6th, 1940 in Chicago Illinois to William James Carthaus and Kathryn (Curtin) Carthaus. He also lived in Tulsa, OK, St. Paul, MN and Bronxville N.Y. Jim graduated from St Thomas Academy (St. Paul) in 1958, Yale University in 1962, and London School of Economics, England in 1963.

Jim lived the majority of his life in New York and led a distinguished career in finance including positions such as President/CEO of Shearson Leasing Co. (1972-1984), Executive V.P./Director of Financial Services of Shearson Lehman Brothers, Inc. (1984-1988), and Chairman/Director of Scott Macon, Ltd. (1990 - 2000) in New York City. An active member in business and the community Jim held other executive and civic responsibilities over his lifetime such as a Trustee in Bankruptcy for the U.S. District Court, Director of Franciscan Sisters of the Poor Fdn., Inc., Public Director of the National Waterways Foundation, Chairman of the Lawrence Hospital Finance Committee, Chairman of the Ethics Board for the Village of Bronxville, Director of the United Fund of Bronxville, Director of the Yale Alumni Fund, Director of the Siwanoy Country Club, Director of Lending Tree, Inc., and others.

A man of integrity and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend to many Jim is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Linda; son William "Jay" Carthaus and his wife Claudia (Greenwich, CT); son Ethan Carter (Oceanside, CA); brother Dick and his wife Marcia (Naples); Linda's children Lora Brothers (Phoenix, AZ) and Daniel Davis (Naples); his four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In his retirement Jim enjoyed his passion for travel, summers in Vermont, and serving as Le Maitre of Commanderie De Bordeaux, Chambellan of Le Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin in Naples.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, March 15th at 10am at St. William Catholic Church, 601 Seagate Drive, in Naples. A Funeral Mass and burial will be held sometime in May (TBD) in Peru, Vermont.
