Jane B. Bartro Obituary
Jane B. Bartro

Sarasota, FL

Jane B. Bartro, 89, of Sarasota, Florida passed away on January 9, 2018. She was born in Yonkers, New York on February 21, 1928 to Elizabeth and Thomas Brennen. She grew up in Hastings-on Hudson, NY, and went on to attend Hood College in Maryland where she received a Bachelor's degree in Languages. She was a proofreader for Collier's Encyclopedia in NYC before her marriage. She married Robert D. Bartro on June 17, 1950 and they were blessed with 66 years of marriage and raised 7 children. Jane worked for the Town of New Castle in Chappaqua, New York. After retirement, she and her husband Bob spent the next 20 years enjoying their time in Wellfleet, Massachusetts (Cape Cod) and Naples, Florida.

Jane loved languages and literature. She was a voracious reader, and enjoyed discussing books with family, friends, and book club members. She enjoyed tennis and golf and spent much time on the tennis courts and greens with friends from Wellfleet and Naples. Jane adored spending time with her children and their families, and truly enjoyed listening to all that was going on in their lives. One of Jane's most precious gifts was her ability to listen, and she was always interested in hearing about the lives of others. In a busy world, talking with Jane helped to quiet the mind.

Jane is survived by her 7 children: Susan King (Samuel), Marguerite Moran (James), Robert (Janet), Thomas (Sally), Patrice Sarles (Richard), Christopher (Lisa), John (Judy); 12 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Jane was predeceased by her husband, Bob, her infant daughter, Mary, and her brother, Tom.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 22 at 10:00 a.m. at St. William Catholic Church, 601 Seagate Drive, Naples. Burial will take place on Friday, February 23, at 12:30 pm at Sarasota National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local hospice.

Our family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation for the compassionate care our mother received while living at DeSoto Palms Assisted Living. The sensitivity and support of the staff helped us through a very difficult time, and we will never forget their kindness.
