Mary graduated from Waterbury High School. In 1952 she married Eugene P. Kirwan and resided in Prospect, CT until 1964 and then relocated to Wallcott, CT until 1972. Mary and her husband Gene decided that they had enough of the cold weather and relocated to Naples in 1972 with their children. Together they opened Kirwan Art Gallery on 5th Ave. South. A painting company was opened at a later date until her husband passed in 1981. She was blessed at a later date to meet a wonderful, caring man, Joseph Peterson. They had many happy years together before his passing on July 10, 2007.

Mom enjoyed her time at the Philharmonic. She was an acting member of the Red Hats Club and Tides Club. Mary was an original founding parishioner at Saint William Church.

Besides her parents and husbands, she also was preceded in death by her daughters-in-law, Terri (Pever) Kirwan and Gretchen (Nelson) Kirwan; great-grandson, Cody McIntosh; siblings William Slavin, Catherine Deschenes, Helen Lapham, and Donald Gauvin. Survivors include her sons, Brian M. Kirwan of Naples and Eugene (Maureen) Kirwan of Ft. Myers; grandchildren, Brandy McIntosh, Shannon Windsor, Kyle Kirwan, Heather Kirwan, Justin Annazone, Kayleigh Kirwan; great-grandchildren, Joleen Windsor, Colt McIntosh; along with many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint William Catholic Church on Friday, August 11th at 10:00 a.m. with Father Dominic O'Dwyer officiating.

A memorial service will take place at Naples Memorial Gardens on Saturday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m.
