Norman Krivosha Obituary

Judge Norman Krivosha

1934-2021

Died peacefully at home in Naples, FL, on January 26, 2021. Norman was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Molly and David Krivosha. He moved to Lincoln, NE, to live with his cousins and attend the University of Nebraska, where he graduated from college and law school. He was a partner in the venerable law firm of Ginsburg, Rosenberg, Ginsburg & Krivosha until 1978. Governor Jim Exon appointed him as the Nebraska Supreme Court's Chief Justice in 1978, a post in which he served until 1987. During his time on the bench, Norman taught appellate advocacy at the University of Nebraska School of Law and helped young lawyers understand how best to serve their clients. In 1987, Norman retired from the bench and became General Counsel for Ameritas Financial Corporation until 2000. After he retired from Ameritas, Norman served as "Of Counsel" for Kutak Rock LLP and opened its first office in Lincoln, NE. Norman was President of and helped establish the American Corporate Counsel Association and served as one of two Uniform Law Commissioners from Nebraska. Norman loved the law and touched the lives of many with his ground-breaking arguments as a lawyer and his opinions as a judge. Norman was the national President of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, where he influenced a generation of students as he visited campuses around the country. Beginning in 2000, Norman and his wife Helene began to split their time between Lincoln and Naples, FL, and in 2005, moved permanently to Naples. Norman was very involved with the Jewish community at Tifereth Israel Synagogue in Lincoln, NE, and Beth Tikvah in Naples. He raised funds for Israel through Israel Bonds by speaking all over the country and saw the fruits of Israel Bonds' labors through many visits to Israel during his lifetime. Norman was an active participant as one of the two lay members of the law committee of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism for many years as well as a Vice President for United Synagogue providing valued leadership and advice.. He served as the President of the Jewish Federation in Naples. Norman also volunteered legal services to Habitat for Humanity in Naples and served as President of his community at Naples Heritage and his street association on Kilkenny Drive. Norman loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and delighted in FaceTiming with them and hosting them at his home in Naples. He was married for 65 years to his beloved wife Helene, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughters, Terri Krivosha (Rabbi Hayim Herring), and Rhonda Hauser (Adam Hauser), and "adopted son" Herzl Sulamanzaidah. His grandchildren, Avi Herring (Shaina), Tamar Krivosha, Micah Hauser (Priscilla Frank), and Alana Hauser, and his great-grandchildren, Noam Herring and Liba Herring. Special thanks to the nurses and caregivers from McKenney Home Care and the AVOW Hospice team and Brooke Zanella of My Care Manager for the care and compassion they showed to Norman during his illness and to the wonderful care by Dr. George Ferguson in Naples, FL, for Norman over the years since he and Helene moved to Naples. Memorials preferred to Congregation Beth Tikvah in Naples, FL - Chesed Fund, or the Villa at Terracina Grand in Naples, FL (memory care facility). My condolences to the Krivosha family. I knew Norman and his parents when we lived around the block from them in Detroit. I always referred to his folks as Auntie Mollie and Uncle Dave. They owned a dry cleaning business in the old neighborhood around 12th Street. I can remember my mother telling me that Auntie Mollie was my Godmother. I was sad when they moved to Nebraska but so very proud of what Norman accomplished.

Dear Helene, Rhonda, Terri and Family:

We are so very sorry to hear of Norm's passing. I still remember his jovial smile and energy having grown up next door! He was so kind to me when I picked all the tulip tops off of your flowers when I was like 3 or 4 years old! He also helped me when I was attacked by a dog while riding a bike in college and the dog owner refused to cover my deductible and co-insurance from the accident. He has helped our family so many more times. We are praying for you and my Mom and brothers send love and prayers as well.

Helene - I am so sorry about your loss of my dear friend Norman - I lost my Norma 13 yrs ago. Norm was one of the finest men I have ever known and he gave me great support with the City of Lincoln. In addition, you may recall you and he agreed to be Godparents for our son and daughter--I will always be grateful for that.

God bless you and your family and our dear Norman.

As Norm's law clerk at the Nebraska Supreme Court during his first year in that position, I was privileged to spend a great deal of time with him. His enthusiasm for the law, for life, for people and for just about everything was contagious, and I consider that year at his side to have been one of my most valuable learning experiences. A truly exceptional man, by all measures.

Terri, In our senior year of high school, you and your father, along with Micki and her father, took me with you to the Father/Daughter
dance. Your father was so kind, so gracious and his smiling eyes put me at ease. That is my favorite memory of him. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

My deepest condolences to the Krivosha family. Some of the best memories of my youth are of Terri and her warm, loving mother and father. Mr. Krivosha was inspiring in so many ways. Most of all, I remember his kindness.

My parents met Norman´s parents at their business in Lincoln Ne. Then Norman became our families attorney. As an adult he became my attorney. What a nice man, what a memory, and no matter my problem he always made me feel important , as though he really was invested. PLUS, no matter how long it had been since he had seen me, he remembered what he did for me! What a lovely human he was! God bless him.

When Norm was in my barber chair, world problems were solved, laughs were many and the day was brighter. How fortunate we are to have known him and called him friend. Great memories!

Helene, I have missed Norm since you left Lincoln, but now you are terribly missing him and will forever. Roy and I loved sitting in front of you at football games and enjoying those Glory Years together. I often laugh about November, 1980, when we were going to Japan with Yamaha, and Norm had the perfect quip for Roy, when he told him, "Now Roy don't you go over there and start World War III! So perfect for ornery Roy. Norm had the greatest sense of humor, and I could count on a great laugh at every game that you and Norm were behind us.
Thinking of you, Helene, and knowing the wonderful memories will sustain you at this difficult time and onward.
Love to you,
Marcia Wythers

Dear Family and Friends.
I am so sorry for your loss.
My sincere condolences to everyone.
To Terry and Rhonda and your respective families.
To Helene.
I loved "little Norm" as my Grandma and Aunty would call him as my Uncle Norman was the bigger (taller) one!
I was so lucky to have seen him a few years ago here in Toronto. What an amazing man. He will truly be missed and his memory cherished. With Love, Heather Eugene

Helene and family: I am sorry about your loss. As you know, Norm played a very important role in my life. I will always consider him as one of my good friends. I do wish I had been better about keeping in contact, but we always have regrets about things like that I guess. I have no regrets about the relationship he and I had; for me it was a true blessing.
