Sharon Lee Svoboda (nee Hoekzema) was born on April 7, 1934, in Grand Rapids, MI, and passed peacefully in the company of her husband, three sons, and eldest grand child on May 17, 2018, in Naples, FL. A Memorial Service is scheduled for June 2, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at Naples United Church of Christ. She was a lifelong educator and earned her Master's in Reading from the University of Maine. During her years in public schools she worked in all grade levels with many in Bangor at both 5th St. Jr. High School and Bangor High School. Later, she worked in some southern Maine school districts as well. She was an innovative educator and often served as an advisor for student groups and school publications. Sharon was active in music programs and community life of many churches. She enjoyed playing several instruments and signing. She was an inspiration to all who know her. She will be dearly remembered by family, friends, and students. Sharon is survived by her husband, Rev. Gordon Svoboda, three sons and two daughter-in-law, eleven grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Gordon and Sharon recently celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary. The family wishes to thank her many Care Givers.
