Judith Jean Black Judy Lee's Summit, MO
Judith Jean Black Judy died October 7, 2012 at the Lee's Summit Medical Cen ter. She appreciated the help from many doctors as they treated her multiple medical problems. She especially looked forward to the visits from Dr. Devins who tried to cheer her even as she struggled to breathe.
Born in Toledo, OH June 22, 1928, she married Harry F. Judy in August, 1949.
Her sister, Mary Catherine (Kate) Haberstock of Rossford, OH, and brother, Walter Myron (Mike) Black (Ellen) of Circleville, OH, will miss her, as will her children, Jennifer (Kenneth) Harrison of Lee's Summit, Jeffrey (Mary) Judy of Raymore, and Lawrence (Marion) Judy of Evansville, IN. Her grandchildren, Walter, Emily, Marybeth, Joshua, Jessica, Justina, Sarah, and Kyle will miss her. Great-grandchildren, Madison, Maya, Ainsley will miss her, but Charlie will only hear stories and see pictures when he gets older.
A graduate of Waite High School in Toledo, she went on for her nursing degree at the University of Toledo. Over the years she followed her husband and raised her children in Toledo, Fremont, Terre Haute, IN, Aiken, SC, Shamokin, PA, Robinson, IL, and Kansas City.
When the kids were grown she moved to Bonita Springs, FL to work as a nurse in the Naples Hospital OB department to help bring countless newborns into the world. She appreciated all her friends at John Knox in Lee's Summit, where she lived in retirement.
Grandma Judy, an artist in the media of paint, sewing, and chocolate chip cookies, sent handpainted greeting cards to family at Christmas. Perhaps she didn't have the fame of Grandma Moses, but her family valued them more. She loved playing cards, whether teaming up to play Bridge with friends at John Knox or trouncing the computer at Spider. She taught many how to knit, and some still wear the stocking caps she knitted for us in the 1960s. She traveled from Los Angeles to Switzerland, even braving to be piloted by her son in a Cessna over the Gulf out to Key West and back.
Visitation will be at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee's Summit Wednesday, October 10th starting at 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at Langsford on Thursday, October 11th at 1:00 p.m.
Donations can be made to a memorial fund in her name at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church.

To Judy's Family,
She was our family's treasured friend. A very special lady who was generous, ambtious, interesting, delightful and loving. We have been blessed by being part of her life for almost 25 years. We have some very happy memories to carry in our hearts forever! At last she is free from pain and in the arms of Jesus.
God bless you all~

I fondly remember when Judy first arrived in our NCH OB department, for she brought with her such an enthusiastic & joyful attitude. Since you mentioned her cookies, I'll add that she helped our Emmanuel Luth. Church Women create a wonderful cookbook in 1976. I'm sure that my mother-in-law has already shown her where all the heavenly baking supplies are located! Our deepest to all your family. Marcia& Gary Piipponen

It was 37 1/2 years ago that I delivered my first baby at NCH and Judy Judy was my nurse....how could I ever forget! She was so kind and helpful to me as a young mother that I added her name to my daughter's baby book so she would know how fortunate we were to have such a special nurse with an unforgettable name! Our deepest condolences to her family over her passing...she will be remembered with great fondness.
