Stanley REVICH Obituary

Published by National Post on Nov. 29, 2016.
REVICH, Stanley Joseph
January 19, 1932 – November 27, 2016
Stan passed away peacefully, with family at his bedside, on November 27, 2016 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Debby, and by his parents Sam and Anne Revich. He is survived by his sister, Bernice Norman, and by his children; Allan (Audrey Freidin), Warren, Carole (Eric Jensen), and Terri (Gary Edwardes). Also survived by his great- grandson Mai, and 9 grandchildren whom he adored; Noga, Dan, Matthew, Noah, Izaak, Alexander, Sam, Jake, and Olivia. He will also be missed by his little canine buddy, Tyson. Stan was born in Toronto where he attended the University of Toronto, graduating with a degree in medicine in 1956. He practiced medicine for many years, and is still remembered with fondness by his patients. After retiring from his family practice he pursued his dream of becoming an author, and wrote 7 novels, all of which were published, and several of which became part of the curricula of Jewish school systems worldwide. Until his illness eventually overcame him, Stan was very active in Toronto, Burlington, and Phoenix, Arizona; where he will be remembered as a dear friend and a serious golfer. He always kept his own score, and was not known for being shy about pointing out scoring "discrepancies". Stan was also an avid table tennis player, never giving an inch, and always beating his children and grandchildren. Even into his 80's he nearly always won – often against much younger (and equally competitive) players. He had a strong sense of justice, and was a lifelong activist for animal rights. The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate caregivers in the Complex Transitional Care unit of Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. A funeral will be held at Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at 11:30. Interment at Pardes Shalom Cemetery, followed by a luncheon. Shiva visits: Wednesday 501-1555 Avenue Rd. (Toronto). Thursday 3210 Settlement Court (Burlington). Friday 287 Maxwell St. (Toronto). Donations to PETA, UJA, or the Oakville Hospital Foundation.

Dr.Revich was our family physician and he delivered me, my sister and brothers at Branson Hospital and we lived beside him and Mr.Revich on Bayview Avenue in Willowdale when we were children . They then moved a few miles down the road near York Mills Road. He was a kind and caring doctor and always teased me about my weight as I was very chubby and loved chocolate as a child. He said "you are sweet enough and if you keep eating that chocolate you will turn brown like chocolate" . I actually believed him and started eating white chocolate only .
