Dr. Robert Jay Schneider
Dr. Robert Jay Schneider, 71, of Bedford, NY, passed away on October 1, 2020 at his residence.
Bob was born on May 31st, 1949 in Miami, FL. He grew up in New York City with his parents, Irving and Ethel Pack Schneider, and his sister, Bonnie. He attended the Fieldston School and then attended Boston University, graduating with a degree in History. He received his medical degree from The Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Bob then trained in Internal Medicine at Jacobi Hospital, after which he completed his Oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering. In 1981, while affiliated with Memorial Sloan Kettering, he began a private practice in Northern Westchester where he devoted himself to his patients throughout the remainder of his life.
Bob served on the board of New Canaan Country School and was involved in fundraising at the Lawrenceville School. He had a love for and was a patron of the arts, from the sublime to the earthly, and was an avid reader on an endless quest for enlightenment. Bob was known for his distinct sense of humor and his infectious laugh. A lover of food and wine, Bob knew how to appreciate the finer things in life, as well as the simple joys of action movies, slapstick comedies and takeout. He truly loved his Weimaraners. And his generosity was widespread. Bob was a family man who adored his children, his grandchildren, and, especially, his wife.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara, his son, Matthew (Michelle) of Montclair, NJ, his daughter, Kirsten (Neil) Ayaz of Ridgefield, CT, and his three grandchildren, Zachary, Isabel and Maya.
A private family service will be held at the New Canaan Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers please send contributions to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

We are devastated that you are no longer around, your absence leaves us profoundly saddened. We Thank you for all your help with Mom. Your help was pretty close to miraculous. You will never know how much you meant to us, we admired so many of your great qualities and were so very honored to have known you. You were the nicest man and a wonderful doctor. We enjoyed our weekly visits with you, you made going for chemo easier and sometimes we could not wait to speak with you, just to hear what you had to say next. Life will never be the same. The past few months we could not find any doctor that remotely compares to you. That is something that breaks my heart and makes me angry and scared for the future of moms healthcare, However, we owe any of her progress to you and your genius. We miss you greatly. You will always have a special place in our hearts. Rest in Peace.

My heart aches. This man treated my husband like a brother. He was on our doorsteps within 24 hours of my husbands horrific mesothelioma diagnosis. He gave him hope and At Least 2 years more than any other doctor would offer as an option. He never gave up and was

Sad to hear of your passing. You worked with my Mom Denise Primiano on the Oncology Unit for many years at NWHC. She passed in 2019 from Gliosarcoma. She was actually the same age as you, born in the same year, I did not realize till now. You were considered one of the best she would tell me. I was also a Nurse at NWHC. You will be missed I am sure of it. Rest In Peace and God Bless your family.

RIP Dr Schneider You were a super human being. I working at NWHC for 47 years and dealing with your office was always pleasant. I always remember you coming to the Mt Kisco Movie Theater (my second job) and it was a pleasure to serve you. You were loved by many.
