Roger Alvin Kingsbury
Roger Alvin Kingsbury, age 67, born on February 19, 1953, of Ames, Iowa, went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 10, 2021. He passed away due to complications of glioblastoma cancer.
Private family services will be held.
Roger was a proud lifelong native of Ames. He was the son of Carl and Shirley (Hill) Kingsbury and the couple had 5 boys in total. Roger grew up on a farm with his brothers and continued to farm alongside them in some capacity for most of his life. He graduated from Ames High School in 1971 and while there he discovered his life passions of woodworking, industrial technology, and auto-mechanics.
Roger first started his career at George White Chevrolet doing auto body work. He went on to work for the 3M Company and did so for a remarkable 44 years before retiring in 2017. While working there he also met the love of his life, Freda (Tannous), and the two were married on June 17, 1978. Throughout the years Roger became a talented gardener and landscaper as he worked on his backyard koi pond and also helped others with their own gardening projects.
One of Roger's biggest accomplishments was being a father. He took every chance that he could get to talk about how proud he was of his son and daughter. He was also an extremely proud grandfather, having 5 grandkids in total. Another of Roger's proud accomplishments was being a devoted Christian. He loved telling others about Jesus and his strong faith in the Lord.
Roger enjoyed fishing and deer hunting and took several fishing trips to Canada with his son, brothers, and friends. He loved classic cars, was an avid fan of Cyclone sports and the Green Bay Packers, and was a very talented woodworker. He enjoyed telling corny dad jokes and making others laugh. Roger was passionate about serving others without asking for anything in return and always made sure they were comfortable before himself. He was the definition of a handy man and always eager to help out when a project needed to be done.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Carl; mother, Shirley; brother, Richard; and brother, Gary. Roger is survived by his wife, Freda; son, Andrew (Sarah); daughter, Megan (Luke); brothers, Bruce (Diane) and Denny; and his 5 grandkids, Ansel, Vivian, Cecelia, Anderson, and Milo.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left to Roger's family at www.adamssoderstrum.com.

We are deeply saddened by Roger's passing. But we are thankful he has gone to be with the Lord whom he loved and served. He was a great testimony for the goodness of God. The earthly good-bye is so difficult, but as Christians we have the assurance we will see Roger again. Heaven becomes even more precious as our loved ones go there. Love and prayers ~ David and Carlene Norris, Ames.

I worked with Roger for many years at 3M in Ames and had many occasions to discuss numerous local, state and world topics with him. He always had a joke or an amusing story to share along with a very interesting and well-thought-out opinion. Please accept my sincere condolences. Roger will be missed.
