RICHARD WHITE

Richard Carter White, 80, of Retta, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016.

Richard was born on June 22, 1935, in Retta, a son of the late Clayton and Norma Carter White.

He was a graduate of Meshoppen High School with the Class of 1953. In high school, he was a member of the baseball team. Richard was an avid baseball and softball player throughout the years. Richard was a huge supporter of his favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies. He also enjoyed bowling in various local leagues.

On July 24, 1954, he married the former Betty Jean Carney and together they raised four children.

He was a lifelong dairy farmer who owned and operated the R-Whiteway Farm in Retta, which is still in operation today. Richard loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed his many trips to Canada, especially after purchasing his place at Pike Lake. He was a member of the Retta United Methodist Church and the Retta Men's Club.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Jean White of Retta; his four children: Boyce (Tammy) White of Meshoppen, Carolette (Brian) Naylor of Retta, Judy (Donald) Olshan of Factoryville, and Ronald (Terry) White of Retta; grandchildren: Candice (Josh) Kennedy, Chasty (Cesar) Alvarenga, Clayton (Natalie) White, Mary (AJ) Daley, Laura White, Megan (Daniel) Newhart, Brianna (Travis) Fryer, Jesse (Sabrina) Naylor, Christine Olshan, Tyler (Greta) White, Cameron White, and Ryan Stone; great-grandchildren: Kiah Kennedy, Nevan Kennedy, Alexis Fryer, Karaya Faigle, Amanda Daley, Ian Norton, Tristin Fryer, Rylee Naylor, Brynn Fryer, Logan Alvarenga, Noah Alvarenga, Austin Daley, Tucker White, Scarlett Naylor and Colby Alvarenga. He is also survived by a sister Marlene Kelley; sister-in-law Marie McMicken; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by sisters-in-law: Doris Kolesar and Shirley Fuller; brothers-in-law: Burleigh Kelley, John Kolesar, and Lancer McMicken.

The funeral service for Richard was held at the Retta United Methodist Church, with Rev. Edward C. Kerber II, of the church, officiating. Interment followed at the Retta Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations to the Retta United Methodist Church, 651 Retta Road, Montrose, PA 18801.
