ELIZABETH Jane "Betty" SISSENSTEIN Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Sissenstein, 75, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Scranton, went to be with the Lord after a long and courageous battle with ALS on July 9, 2020. She is survived by her devoted, loving husband of 29 years and caregiver, Richard Sissenstein.

Born July 19, 1944 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Bochak. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1962, and employed as a seamstress at Triple A Trouser and Goldstar Manufacturing. Later in life, she remarried and relocated to the Tunkhannock area where she volunteered at the Interfaith Store. Elizabeth and her husband moved to Florida 18 years ago to retire and enjoy life.

Her faith in God was steadfast and her love of Jesus unwavering. She never complained about her sickness or asked "why me?" She was a selfless, kind, humble, honest woman, and once you knew her, you had a friend for life! Her laugh was infectious and her smile was so bright. She truly had a zest for life and her family will miss her tremendously.

She loved her children, grandchildren and brand new great-granddaughter above all and enjoyed spending time with them and acting silly. She loved going to bingo and making crafts for family and friends. In her spare time, she liked going shopping to score the perfect treasure and deal. She truly was a real life Angel on this earth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Bochak.

Betty is also survived by her children: Paul Barucky Jr. and wife, Jennifer, Scranton; Christine Wesley and husband, Jeffrey, Wilkes-Barre; and Renee Ruthkosky and husband, Philip; stepdaughters: Tina Hodge and husband, Adam, Falls; and Erin Sissenstein, Scranton; stepson, Eric Sissenstein, Falls; a brother, John Bochak and wife, Grayce, Villas, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

There will be a memorial service Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Basilica, 1233 St. Ann Street, Scranton.

Memorial contributions may be made to ALS Association, 1300 Wilson Blvd., Suite 600, Arlington, VA 22209; alsa.org.
