Robert W. "Bikin' Bob" Rousculp
PERRY COUNTY: Robert W. "Bikin' Bob" Rousculp left this world the way he entered it: at home, with family. He died March 19, 2013, having lived a rich, rewarding life.
Born in 1933 to his farming parents, Wayne and Harriet nee Gilmore Rousculp near Somerset, Ohio, Bob was a lifelong resident of Perry County and a 1951 graduate of Somerset High School. In keeping with his rural roots, he was a 4-H advisor for the Glenford Harvesters for many years, and he worked with the Licking County Extension's pest and weed management program after retiring from Rockwell in Newark.
Many visitors to the Ohio State Fair rode his tractor-driven shuttle from the parking lot or around the fairgrounds. Bob was a member of the UAW/Rockwell Retirees, Columbus Outdoor Pursuits, Licking County Bicycle Club, and American Red Cross as a multi-gallon donor. He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glenford, Ohio, and during winter, a regular attendee of Bethel Lutheran in Lyford, Texas. He became a "Winter Texan" after retirement, and developed many dear friends in the Rio Grande Valley. It was there that his love of bicycling grew. Cycling became a passion in his life; it took him from "coast-to-coast" at age 61, as well as through the Canadian Rockies, Glacier National Park, along the Pacific Coast, throughout the Midwest, along the Natchez Trace, and many points between. Bob was a regular participant in the Tour of the Scioto River Valley (TOSRV), the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure (GOBA), Hilly Hundred, the Iowa RAGBRAI, and other multi-day rides. As much as he loved biking, he loved his family more. He was truly a man ahead of his time, as he often had to be a mom and a dad when his children were young. His sacrifices and hard work were never forgotten.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother Forrest "Russ" Rousculp; wife Donna nee Theisen Rousculp; and grandson Aaron Hodges.
Left to mourn his passing as well as celebrate his life are his second wife of 32 years Karen nee Klingler (Boyer) Rousculp; son Gene (Melissa) Rousculp; daughters Jackie (David) Lann, Geri (Teri Wehausen) Rousculp, and Jenny (fiancée Scott Miller) Rousculp; grandchildren Andy, Alex, and Amy Hodges, Megan, Hannah, and Tori Rousculp, Chris Gosh, and three great grandchildren; stepson Mike (Kathy) Boyer and stepdaughter Sandy Glorioso; sister-in-law Ginny Rousculp; and dear friend Dave Ridenour.
Bob will be greatly missed by his many relatives, friends, and fellow parishoners at St. Paul's and Bethel Lutheran churches, residents of Eastgate Park in Harlingen, Texas, Greenbay South Community in LaFeria, Texas, and many others who were fortunate to call him friend. Special thanks to pastors Beth Batson and Leslie Fox, the staff at Springfield Community Mercy Hospital and Community Mercy Hospice.
At the family's request, cremation will be conducted by the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute to a cause supported by Bob can send donations to either the Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action, PO Box 220, Glouster, OH 45732 or The Carter Center, 453 Freedom Pkwy, Atlanta, GA 30307 (http://www.carter center.org).
A Celebration of Life! will be held on Saturday April 27th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glenford to honor the great human being known by many names, including Bob, Grandpa, sweetie, friend, neighbor, Moo PaPa, Child of God, son, Buckeye Bob, Bikin' Bob, and simply, Dad. As he makes his final ride, we can hear him whisper, "On your left."
To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
Thanks for the anniversary reminder. I think of Bob every other Wednesday at our Via de Cristo get together at breakfast in Zanesville. It is amazing how ofter Bob stop's by just to say hellow and pass on a big smile. How is Bob's dog?

To Bob's kids.
I cant think of anything that would make your days seem brighter, but Bob would have a suggestion that would help. I miss that already. There are so many memories that they get all squeezed together which can be interesting. I can only thank God for Bob.

Dear Bob's family,
It is always delightful hearing from Bob and I can't believe how fast time has flown. I was in LCBC 10 yrs. at least starting maybe about 1990's. We had such fun and I loved the farm when we came out for cookouts. He wrote from TX and came to my reunions and I rode his OSU tractor. Also, remember meeting/riding Jackie and Geri but I forget where. I'll find my picture from GOBA and be aghast how long ago that was.
My life has so many circles and I love that I met your wonnderrful "Bikin" Dad!!

To all of Bob's family; Bob was one of the men that I started biking with 23 years ago. This group made me feel comfortable with them, taught me to ride (as much as they could) and taught me that a common interest bonds many together. I have many fond memories of Bob and remember meeting Geri and Gene. He was very proud of his family and truly enjoyed life. I will remember that "twinkle" in his eye, what a special man.

I used to be Marlene Eveland, Crooksville class of 1953. Donna Theisen was class of 1952. After graduation I went to Columbus to work and Donna & Bob often brought me back to Perry County for the weekend. I have stayed all night at their home in Columbus and at least once at the Rousculp farm outside Somerset. The last time I saw them they were about 8 and a half months pregnant for their first child. Peace for the entire family.
