Brady Michael Hempleman

Newark - A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the beautiful life of Brady Hempleman, 12-year-old son of Jeffrey and Theresa "Terri" (Riley) Hempleman, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 12, 2021, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark. Funeral services will be livestreamed on the St. Francis de Sales YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/stfadmin

Brady, born in Westerville, Ohio on March 22, 2008, was a 7th grade student at St. Francis de Sales Elementary, and parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Easily spotted in crowds due to his curly blonde hair and infectious smile, Brady played baseball, basketball, and football, and was most eager to follow in the path of his uncles as a standout football player for the Newark Catholic Greenwave. Competitive in nature, Brady loved being part of a team, and was himself, a devoted teammate. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Los Angeles Lakers, especially Kobe Bryant.

As the youngest of his family, Brady has been described as embodying all of his sibling's best qualities. A helper, a peacemaker, and a prayer warrior, Brady was accepting of all and did not judge others under any circumstance. He would often be found climbing too far up the large tree in his backyard, where he liked to sit and think while enjoying an Arizona Tea. He was determined, inquisitive, always asking questions. He was known affectionately within the family as "Baby Brady", a nickname he was determined to outgrow and would often respond with "Just Brady". He loved his family and he told them often. Brady was a gracious child, and never left the dinner table without saying "Thank you, Mom, for the food".

In addition to his parents, Brady will be greatly missed by his siblings, Ally, Riley and Cory; maternal grandparents, William and Mary Lou (McCabe) Riley; paternal grandparents, Mary Pierson (Phil, dec.); aunts and uncles, Bill (Karen) Riley, Annette (Steve) Corl, Darby (Luann) Riley, Rich (Amy) Riley; Gregg (Anna) Hempleman, Eric (April) Pierson, and Erin Pierson; cousins, Tanner, Taylor, Sam, Kevin, Daniel, Peyton, Reese, Abby, Alison, Erica, and Alex; his classmates, teammates and friends.

Calling hours for Brady will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 40 Granville Street, Newark, 2-7 P.M., Thursday, February 11, 2021. The evening will conclude with a Vigil Service at 7 P.M. For those attending calling, please enter through the back doors of the St. Francis Lamy Center and proceed into the church via the adjoining hallway. Due to the pandemic, masks must be worn inside the church and social distancing is required. In an effort to allow everyone to express condolences in a safe manner, we ask that individuals not congregate and socialize inside the church.

Please, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Brady's name be made to a cause he often spoke and prayed for: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Terri, I don’t even know where to begin or what to say. Nothing sounds right. My heart is breaking for you and your family. Last time I saw Brady was about 6-7 years ago. Coming into the clinic with the rest of the family just to say hi to you. What a beautiful kid and what a beautiful family. I’m so very sorry. Sorry beyond what words can express.

Sometimes there just are no words. We have been holding your family in prayer since we heard of you tragic loss. I remember the Riley’s from early days and friendships with my niece, Jennifer Reed and nephew, Matt Reed who attended St Francis where the Riley family was known to all. From all I have heard Brady impacted many with his athletic abilities yet more so for his compassion. We will continue to pray for the Newark/Heath community as all travel through this “too soon” loss!
