Dave, Denison University Professor Emeritus of Psychology, died at his home on Monday, April 12, 2021. He was born in Dunkirk, New York on November 25, 1954, to the late Alfred J. and Loretta H. (Graczykowski) Przybyla.
A 1972 graduate of Dunkirk Senior High School, Dave was active in many school activities including their drama department and student council. He earned his B.S. from SUNY College at Fredonia, his M.S. from Purdue University, and his Ph.D. from SUNY-Albany.
Dave directed the Organizational Studies program at Denison University for 22 years where students would explore the theoretical framework behind institutional participation, authority models, and interpersonal behavior. As director, Dave led students in hands-on consulting projects for local, regional, and national organizations, helping them develop skills in negotiation, teamwork, and leadership. Through the years, he built connections with industry leaders that allowed students to experience complex interrelationships between the behaviors of individuals, groups and organizations and develop skills in interdisciplinary problem-solving.
Dave retired last year after 35 years of service on the Denison faculty. His teaching of organizational psychology has spanned a broad spectrum of theoretical and real-world issues affecting human groups and structures. His research has ranged from gender and sexuality to gender differences in the use of power in hierarchical and collaborative organizational cultures.
Dave is survived by his brother, Lawrence (Carol) Przybyla; nephews, Brian, Adam, and Jason; and his many colleagues, friends, and students from within Denison University.
