Elizabeth Duel

Scotia - Elizabeth "Betty" Duel, 76, passed away September 6, 2018 at Schenectady Center Nursing and Rehab Center, following a long illness. Betty was born on May 30, 1942 in Schenectady, daughter of the late Harry J. and Justine (Johnson) Baldwin. A longtime resident of Scotia, she was a member of Scotia-Glenville High School's graduating class of 1960. She went on to receive her Bachelor's in elementary education from Kent State University. Following her education at Kent State University, in 1984 Betty received her Master's degree from SUNY Albany. Betty then worked as a teacher for Middle Granville School and met Walter K. Duel. The couple were married at Scotia U.M. Church on July 20, 1968. They raised two daughters on Cuthbert Street where Betty was a homemaker until continuing her career in teaching at Oak Hill School for the learning disabled. Betty was known for many years as a bank teller for TRUSTCO and later retired in the same capacity for First Niagra. Betty was a people person and enjoyed getting to know others. First and foremost was her love of family and the enjoyment that came from spending lots of time with her grandchildren and spoiling them. A favorite pastime was watching Jeopardy with her granddaughters. Betty also enjoyed traveling and computers. She was predeceased by her sister, Bertha Onderchain.

Surviving is her loving husband of 50 years, Walter and daughters, Kimberly Duel-Rickard and Rebecca (Kenneth Barger) Guthrie; cherished granddaughters: Emily and Laura Rickard and Lilly Barger as well as several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life remembrance service will be held Tuesday (September 11) at 7 PM in the Glenville Funeral Home Chapel, 9 Glenridge Rd. with Rev. Dr. John Califano officiant.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to call on the family prior from 5 - 7 PM.

Entombment will be private at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery. Online family condolences may be expressed at Glenvillefuneralhome.com.
