Iris Mary Frances Wilson

Heath - Iris Mary Wilson, nee Baker (1931-2021), died on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, due to heart complications and lung congestion. During her lifetime, Wilson was an elementary school administrator, a supportive spouse, a devote Roman Catholic and a proud mother of four remarkable children.

Iris Wilson was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest child of Meral and Henrietta (Heuvelman) Baker. She attended private Catholic schools before earning a full scholarship to Fontbonne College, a private Catholic college for women in Clayton, Missouri. Baker earned a bachelor's degree in education at Fontbonne, graduating cum laude in three years. During her senior year, Wilson attended a tea party where she met her future spouse (Bruce Wilson). After graduation, Wilson followed her spouse to San Bernadino, California and thereafter to Niagara Falls, New York. While living in New York, Wilson attended Niagara University earning a master's degree in education.

After getting married in 1953, Wilson started a family and presented her spouse with four healthy children in five years. Soon thereafter, a professional career as an elementary school teacher and school administrator quickly became her focus and passion. In 1968, the Wilson family relocated from Smithtown, New York to Central Ohio to secure better career opportunities. During Wilson's 36-year career as a teacher and school principal, Wilson touched and improved the lives of hundreds of students who attended Conrad Elementary School in Newark, Ohio.

Wilson took great pride in the professional and personal accomplishments of her four children. She encouraged her kids to work hard, love each other, and to adhere to the teachings of the Catholic faith.

When not working, Wilson enjoyed reading the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and watching the Fox News Network. Her favorite political pundits were William Safire, Peggy Noonan, Charles Krauthammer and Rush Limbaugh.

Wilson is predeceased by her parents, her spouse of 63 years, and her five siblings. She is survived by her four children (Mary, Bruce, Cathy and Mark), four grandchildren (Tommy, Nolan, Sarah and Tyler) and one great-grandchild (Wren).

A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Iris M. Wilson's life will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, in Newark, Ohio. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
