Richard West

ZANESVILLE - Richard D. West, 87, of Zanesville, Ohio died Friday afternoon, January 5, 2018 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio.

Born December 27, 1930 in Newark, Ohio he was a son of the late Fred O. and Ethel Mae (Lindamood) West and was a 1950 graduate of Newark High School. Mr. West proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a civil servant, working as a gyro repairman at the Newark Air Force Base where he retired in 1992. Richard was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church in Zanesville, Newark Lodge 97, F. & A. M., Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus and Zanesville American Legion Post 29. He enjoyed bowling, playing euchre and NASCAR.

Surviving is his loving wife of over 36 years, Betty A. (Boney) West whom he married July 11, 1981; one son, Robert (Diane) West of Rochester, New Hampshire; a step-son, Robert Hindman of Zanesville; four grandchildren, Julia Wadsworth, Jacob West, Samuel West and Emily Haley; and five great grandchildren, Nehemiah, Malachi, Jovanna, Aviyah and Joshua. Also surviving is one brother, Roland West of Newark and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Gregory West who died August 22, 2017; a brother, Darrell West; two sisters, Beatrice Brown and Mildred West and a sister in-law, Alice West.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street. Newark Lodge 97, F & A. M. will conduct Masonic services at 8:00pm Monday, January 8, 2018 at the funeral home in Frazeysburg.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Coburn United Methodist Church, 3618 Maple Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio with Pastor Doris Flynn officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. American Legion Post 29 will conduct military honors at the cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Coburn United Methodist Church.
