Pataskala - Virginia Lu Alexander Martin, 93, passed in October after illness and dementia. She was a WWII US Marine Corporal and Reservist. Virginia was born in Youngstown, grew up in Pataskala, and traveled with her missionary parents, Ross Alexander and Teresa Mead Alexander to the Navajo nation in New Mexico. After the war, she became the only female Postmaster of a First Class Post Office in the Denver Region at Farmington, NM, where she met her husband, Elmore Martin, also a WWII veteran. They moved to his home state of Texas, retiring in Kerrville. Granddaughter of Louise Moore Mead, Virginia was active in the Methodist Church, including a related charitable organization, Threads of Love (TOL) which provides items for premature babies. An accomplished seamstress and knitter, she created several quilts, bonnets and booties for TOL. She also supported the Ingram, Texas Hill Country Youth Ranch which serves children with emotional and developmental needs. She moved to Signature Point on the Lake in Dallas in 2007, where she was twice elected President of the Residents' Council. Her family thanks her doctors; and staffs of Signature Point, Health at Home, and Total Hospice and Palliative Care. She is survived by her daughter Terry, and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.
