THORNVILLE: Karen L. Parr, 61, of Thornville, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus.

She was born on February 27, 1953 in Newark, daughter of the late Walter and Carol (Harper) Kowbasa.

Karen's life revolved around two things: her family and teaching. She retired from Northern Local School District in 2010 after 35 years of service at Thornville Elementary. She also taught Jr. Church for over 15 years. She loved children, and enjoyed decorating, scrapbooking, and reading. She attended the Vineyard Grace Church in Newark.

She is survived by her loving family, husband, Rudy; two children, Zachary Parr and Michaela (Matthew) Ames; a granddaughter, Eleanor Katherine Ames; brother, Gregory Kowbasa; sister, Lorraine (Kenneth) Stoneburner; as well as five sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Kowbasa; and an uncle, Lawrence Kowbasa.

A funeral service, celebrating her life, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in the chapel of the Thornville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, 56 S.
