NEWARK: A funeral service celebrating the life of Billie Lee Tumblin, age 88, of Newark, will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29 at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service, with Rev. Walter Bruah officiating.

Mr. Tumblin passed away after a lengthy stay Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Arlington Care Center in Newark and was born May 5, 1926 in Dresden, to the late Edgar and Agnes (Davis) Tumblin.

Billie was a 1943 Newark H.S. graduate who left Newark and went to NYC to work as a dancer on Broadway, where he performed in numerous productions as well as touring performances in association with the Ballet Theatre of New York. Billie was also a dance instructor in New York and Columbus. After returning to Newark, Billie worked for Rockwell for 31 years until his retirement in 1982. He retired as an executive secretary. Billie was past-president of ACT (Assn. of Community Theatres) and regional representative of Ohio Community Theatre Association. Billie held the position of lifetime charter member & first full-term president of Welsh Hills/ Licking County Players. Additionally, Billie performed with the Welsh Hills/Licking Co Players, Weathervane, and various groups in the Columbus area. He directed Harvey, Riverwind, and the world premiere of Buzzards Bay. Off-Broadway, Billie worked with the Provincetown Playhouse productions of Mole Hills and Mr. & Mrs. Phipps.

Additionally, Billie was a 50 year member of F &AM Acme Lodge #554, he was active in the Heisey Collectors of America, past-president of the Fenton Collectors of Central Ohio, past board member of the Fostoria Glass Collectors, and member of Cambridge, Imperial, and Duncan Miller associations. Billie was also a member of Central Christian Church.

He is survived by his niece, Leslie Tumblin (Lester) Sheets of Maumee; great-nephews, Adam (Amanda) Sheets and Aaron Sheets and great-niece, Carrie (Brad) Almquist; as well as Billie's nephew, Don (Cheryl) Tumblin Jr. and great-niece, Lacey of Columbus; Billie is also survived by his longtime friend, Tim Barth of Greenville, OH.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Elizabeth Tumblin as well as his many aunts, uncles, cousins and lifetime friend, Charmaine Green of Timonium, MD.

Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 4-5 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark, where Masonic Services will take place at 5 p.m. Inurnment will take place at Dresden Cemetery at a later date.
