Donald Young Obituary
Donald D. Young

GRANVILLE: Donald D. Young, 85, a lifelong resident of Granville passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at The Ohio State University Medical Center.

Don was born October 5, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Donald W. and Margaret E. (Davis) Young. A 1946 graduate of Granville High School, Don graduated from DePauw University in 1950 and then served two years in the US Army during the Korean conflict.

Don managed the Granville Times stationery and book store for his father from 1950 to 1980 at which time he purchased the business. He sold the Granville Times Book Cellar in December, 1989 and retired after working in the business for 50 years.

Don's generous spirit was shared with his community through the Rotary Club of Granville where he was past president, Granville Merchants Association, 20/30 Club, Center Star #11 Masonic Lodge, his meticulous maintenance of the genealogy records for Maple Grove Cemetery, and his 24 years of volunteer service at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus.

His dry sense of humor, love of jazz music, and devotion to family will long be remembered.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Ruth M. (Johnson) Young, who died in 2002.

Surviving are his children, Sarah M. and Steve Taylor of Rocky River, Ohio, Donna D. Young and James Judd, of Morgan, Vermont; James A. "Jay" and Jenifer Young; and granddaughters, Emma and Ava of Alexandria; and companion and childhood friend, Maralou Campbell of Glenford.

On Tuesday, June 10, 2014, a private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetary. Please come to our open house to share remembrances and celebrate Don's life on Tuesday evening from 6 - 9 P.M. at the Kussmaul Gallery in Granville. Please use the Prospect Street entrance and come up to the second floor.
