NEWARK: A funeral service celebrating the life of Richard C. "Dick" Mitchell, Jr. age 72, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Ronald Hock officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Richard passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014 at his home. He was born August 3, 1941 in Newark to the late Richard Clancy Mitchell, Sr. and Dora (Krone) Adkins.

Dick worked with his step-father, Gail Adkins as an apprentice in his construction business before starting his own business, Dick Mitchell Construction in 1965. He retired in 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Faith Olive (Foreman) Mitchell; four children, Richard C. (Jevon) Mitchell III of Newark, Andrew (Elizabeth) Mitchell of Newark, Ruth (Lowell) Bowers of Nashport and Cheryl (Matt) McCormick of GA; 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Martha Cunningham, Judy (Albert) May, Ron (Hannah) Mitchell, Chuck (Eileen) Mitchell, Mike Mitchell and Jerry (Tracey) Mitchell; two step-brothers, Phil and Tim; step-sister, Barb; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Marie Mitchell; a grandson, Daniel Mitchell; a brother, David Mitchell and a brother-in-law, Butch Cunningham.

Friends may call prior to the service from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street.
