Elsworth Deron "Cornbread" Wilson, 60, of New Bern, a native of Pamlico County died Monday, October 8, 2018 at CarolinaEast Medical Center, New Bern.
He was educated in the Pamlico and Craven County Schools where he was a member of the basketball team at the high schools in each county. He later attended St. Augustine College and Mount Olive College. Elsworth served his country in the U. S. Navy. He later began employment at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station for eighteen years.
He was a 33rd degree Mason having served in many capacities and houses. He was Past Master George B. Willis #423, Past Commander-in-Chief New Bern Consistory #30, Past Special Deputy Grand Master MWPHGL- Eastern Area, Sovereign Grand Inspector General and was appointed Illustrious Deputy for the Orient of West Virginia to name a few. He was also a minister.
Ritualistic services will be conducted 6:00 PM Sunday, October 14, 2018 at St. Paul COC, DOC 1905 Emerson St., Pembroke Community, New Bern.
His service is 1:00 PM Monday at St. Mark AME Zion Church, 511 North Water St., Bayboro. The interment with military honors is 12:00 PM Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
He is survived by his brother, Charles Edward Wilson, Washington, NC and sister, Dr. Joann Odessa Credle, Brandywine, MD, nephew Derrick Columbus and great nephew Derrick Columbus Jr.
