Angela "Lella" Angileri, resident of New Britain, passed away on May 1, 2021, at the age of 78, after a lengthy battle caused by a unique physical condition. Ironically, it is this very condition that set Angela apart from others and drew people to her beautiful and loving nature.
Angela was born in Marsala, Sicily on June 25, 1942 to parents, Giuseppa Milone and her father, Giuseppe Benedetto Angileri. Before migrating to America on her own, Angela received her accounting degree from Scuola de Commerciale in Italy and completed the remainder of her education at CCSU by age 24. While renewing her passport at the Italian Embassy in Hartford, Angela was unexpectedly offered a job as a Life and Annuity specialist at Travelers Insurance company and that's where she retired from after 35+ years of service. Angela was driven, ambitious and did not let her physical challenges limit her life. She lived independently, drove her own car, traveled the world, took exceptional care of her family and established a stable life for herself and her loved ones.
She leaves behind and will be terribly missed by her "lovely, rich in her clothes and rich in her heart" sister-in-law Giuseppa Angileri-Gorski and her caring husband Henry, "love of my life," niece, caretaker and surrogate daughter Giuseppina Lisa Pontbriand and her, "knowledgeable in every way" devoted husband David Pontbriand, their children David "Pumpkin" Junior and "sweet and sassy" Alexa, and her "dearest, affectionate blue-eyed" nephew and surrogate son, Giuseppe Angileri. She also leaves behind the following close cousins: Rosa Maria and her husband Steve Audi, Rachela and Enzo Maltese, Marylou and Giovanni Casano, Margaret and Loredana Antonellis and many more relatives and friends in the US and Italy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Church.
