Joan Widicus (Harrison) Berry age 85 of Edwardsville, Illinois, died at 3:55 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2017, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. The daughter of the late Theron & Lucille (Widicus) Harrison, Joan was born on December 20, 1931, in Collinsville, Illinois. She was delivered by her grandfather Dr. Moses Harrison at his hospital on Church Street. Joan married Richard Rowland Berry, August 8, 1954, at the Eden Church in Edwardsville by Rev. H. Bredehoeft. Richard preceded her in death on February 4, 2012. She is survived by three children and nine grandchildren: Richard Harrison Berry, his wife Mary, and their two children Katherine & Richard of Altadena, California & Edwardsville; Karen Berry Finn, her husband Andy, and their four children Niall, Ryan, Liam & Leta of Park Ridge, Illinois; and Scott Rowland Berry, his wife Kate, and their three children Jacob, Analise, & Joseph of Crystal Lake, Illinois. Joan graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1949, Monticello College in 1951, and from the University of Illinois with Honors in 1953. She taught 2nd grade in the 1950's at the Leclaire School House in Edwardsville and for two years at the Mastick School in Alameda, California. Joan lived in New Canaan, Connecticut from 1983 through 1992 when Richard was transferred there by Olin Corporation. Joan loved reading and playing bridge and Rummikub. Ever the animal lover, she also enjoyed spoiling her various dogs and cats. She was a member of Junior Service, PEO, Eden United Church of Christ, and numerous bridge clubs. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville. There will be a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Kent Schuette officiating. Joan was cremated according to her wishes.
