Shirley Ann (Acton)
Charpentier
Shirley Ann (Acton) Charpentier, 74 of Roxbury, CT passed away peacefully on August 27th at New Milford Hospital after having enjoyed one of her favorite pastimes, singing, the previous day at Roxbury Congregational Church. Shirley was born on July 15, 1944 in Pawtucket, RI and continued her education with classes at URI and RISD where she immensely enjoyed black & white photography, sculpture, pottery and all things related to art. Many of her earlier years were spent viewing & capturing the world through her treasured Minolta 35mm camera and in her darkroom in her home.
Shirley moved to New Milford, CT in 1984 to be with her (late) husband, Frank, where she enjoyed nature, bowling, reading and routinely playing cards with friends and neighbors and most of all, being a stay at home Mom.
In 1990, Shirley moved to her favorite town of Roxbury, where she was the Roxbury Republican Registrar of Voters, Justice of the Peace as well as the Chairman of the Roxbury Republican Town Committee. Shirley was active in town politics until a brain aneurysm in 1994 curtailed these activities. She continued to enjoy church, reading, visiting her favorite spots in Newport, RI. and most of all, her lunch dates and visits with her best friend, Karen Reddington-Hughes. Shirley was best known for always remembering those she loved with funny or thoughtful cards and gifts.
She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Ann Cecelia (Meehan) Acton and her father, John Acton, Sr. along with the love of her life, Frank E. Archibald.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Chanda Charpentier (& TJ Carlson) of Cheshire, CT and her best friend, Karen Reddington Hughes of Woodbury, CT.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at Roxbury Congregational Church, 24 Church St., Roxbury, CT on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m.
