Douglas Faber Mandeville Obituary
Douglas Faber Mandeville, 91, of Viera, Fla., and formerly of Massillon, passed away Jan. 1, 2013, at Wuestoff Hospice House.
Doug was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Dunkirk, N.Y.
He graduated high school and spent most of his life in Massillon, where he and his wife, Helen, were active members of Faith Lutheran Church. Doug and Helen moved to Viera in 2004.
Doug was a World War II veteran, serving in the European theater. His hobbies included wood carving and sports, particularly baseball, golf and bowling. He remained an active bowler through May 2012. He was an avid volunteer at the Senior Center and Senior Bowling League in Massillon.
Survivors are his children, Susan (Eric) Nichols of Viera, Fla., Alan (Linda) Mandeville of Catawba Island, and Julie (David) Girt of Antioch, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Eric Russell Nichols, Jamie (Mark) Buynoski, Jason (Lucy) Girt, Shawna (Greg), and Ethan Mandeville; four great-grandchildren, Michael, Mason, Amelia and Sadie; and sister, Phyllis Chovan.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Helen; and four siblings, including two infants, Charles Mandeville and Eva Strohm.
Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Advent Lutheran Church, Melbourne, Fla. Doug's ashes will be placed in the memorial garden at Advent Lutheran Church.
