Sending everyone my deepest condolensces. Joanna was such a good person who brought many smiles to her friends' faces. I wasn't close to her at Wooster but we did have many discussions and I always appreciated how she stood up for what she believed.

Dear Durdle, Pavlik and Putney families: Joanna and I met when our oldest daughters took the same nature class at age 4 and we got together a few times at our homes. I always thought Joanna was very gracious, intelligent, perceptive, and kind. Although I had not seen her in several years, the world feels meaner without her. Please accept my sympathy for your deep loss. Annette Sutherland (Shaker Hts. OH)

To Joanna's family, I am so deeply saddened by the news of Joanna's passing. We lived on the triangle years ago and have many memories ....from running together to her delicious sesame, peanut noodles! Joanna held a wonderful party for us upon our move to Baltimore...complete with mini crab cakes! Joanna took my place at Laurel School. May your memories sustain you over the days and months ahead. She is deeply missed.

I feel so fortunate to have met Joanna, I wish under better circumstances. I meet so many people who fight this disease but Joanna stood out to me. She was such a strong, caring, and funny lady who showed nothing but grace, love for her family and determination to fight this disease with everything she had. The world is short one special person but she will go on in all those she has touched, especially her husband and children....I will never forget her.

Dear Pavlik-Durdle Family - Joanna and I met when Taylor and my son John were only 5, at Boulevard Elementary school in SH. We were room-moms throughout elementary school in Taylor and Chase's classes. What a joy! I was drawn immediately to Joanna and her warmth, compassion, sense of humor, welcoming nature and just...all the things that made Joanna, Joanna. I am broken-hearted at the news of her passing, but for our family, and I'm sure many others,we will always remember the joy, kindness and love that exuded from Joanna each time we were in her presence. We are so very sorry for your loss. Pam, John and Rebecca Chaney

My heart goes out to all of you who loved Joanna. She and I reconnected at Laurel when my daughter was there after having worked together at Case Western many moons before. We learned that we were both battling cancer and would often talk about the challenges and gifts of our lives. She was so supportive when I lost a dear friend to cancer in October 2010. I am holding all of you in my heart and feel blessed to have known Joanna and had her touch my life.

Joanna welcomed my daughter, Kiki, and our family to Laurel with open arms. I always appreciated her kindness and grace, especially when my family was going through an extremely difficult and emotional time. She was there for us when we needed to be comforted. Her dignity and outpouring of love to others should be an example for all. Joanna was an exceptional person and I feel very fortunate and privileged to have known such a fine lady.
